Crimes against children have increased: Govt. admits

New Delhi, 18 Dec 2013: The Central Government on Tuesday admitted that violence, sexual violence and abuse against children have increased over the year.

Krishna Tirath, Minister for Women and Child Development, stated in Rajya Sabha, the upper house of Indian parliament, that as per record of the National Crime Records Bureau, cases of crimes against children have increased.

She said that the government of India has enacted a special law to protect violence against
children.

The act “Protection of Children against sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012” has come into effect from 14th November, 2012.
