Former President Pranab Mukherjee passes away

NEW DELHI, AUGUST 31—Former President Pranab Mukherjee, who was in coma for the last few days, passed away this evejing.

This was stated by his son Abhijit Mukherjee through a tweet.

“With a Heavy Heart , this is to inform you that my father Shri #PranabMukherjee has just passed away in spite of the best efforts of Doctors of RR Hospital & prayers, duas & prarthanas from people throughout India ! I thank all of You,” Abhijit tweeted.

A medical bulletin from the Army’s Research and Referral (R&R) hospital, where the former President was undergoing treatment, had said on Monday morning that the condition of the former President had deteriorated. According to the bulletin, the former President was in septic shock due to lung infection that he had developed last week.

“There is a decline in the medical condition of Pranab Mukherjee since yesterday. He is in septic shock due to his lung infection and is being managed by team of specialists. He continues to be in deep coma and on ventilator support,” R&R hospital in the bulletin.

According to reports, the former President was operated for brain clot at R & R Hospital and was on ventilator support since then. He had also tested positive for Covid 19. He developed lung infection on August 19 and on August 25, he developed renal problems.
