Victim’s mother Maimoona Khatoon alleged that police posted outside her house were not allowing her family members to go outside as happened with the family of 19-year-old Dalit girl in Hathras district of Uttar Pradesh.

NEW DELHI—The Bihar police have arrested two main accused involved in burning alive a young Muslim women in Rasoolpur village under Desari Police Station of Vaishali district more than a fortnight ago.

The arrest of the accused was done only after the issue was raised by Opposition leaders-Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and RJD’s Tejashwi Yadav.

A senior official of Vaishali district police told India Tomorrow over phone that the main accused involved in the case-Satish Rai and Chandan Rai-have been arrested while the hunt for the third accused is on. Meanwhile, Chandpura police outpost in-charge V D Dubey, under whose jurisdiction the village comes, has been placed under suspension.

While the incident took place on October 30 and an FIR was lodged on November 2, the arrest was made on November 17 & 18. The girl identified as 20-year-old Gulnaz, who was set afire after pouring kerosene over her, had sustained 75 per cent burn injuries and expired in Patna Medical College Hospital on October 15. The accused persons set her ablaze after she spurned the offer of Satish Rai to marry her.

The Opposition leaders including Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and RJD’s Tejashwi Yadav raised the matter through tweets. Rahul Gandhi castigated Bihar Chief Minister Kumar for not taking immediate action in the matter for political gains as Bihar was in the midst of elections when the incident took place. As the accused belonged to dominant Yadav community, Nitish Kumar government avoided immediate action to ensure that Yadav voters did not go against his party.

Rahul Gandhi tweeted, “Whose crime is more dangerous? Those who indulged in the inhuman act or those who hid it for electoral benefits so that they could lay the foundation of their false ‘good governance’ over this mis-governance”.

Rahul’s comments were re-tweeted by Tejashwi, asking, “Where are those who came from Delhi to look for ‘jungle raj’ in LED light in Bihar? The nation wants to know who is the ‘maharaja’ of the jungle raj”.

According to Vaishali police, elaborate security arrangements have been made in Rasoolpur village in view of tense situation in the village.

Asaduddin Owaisi attacks Nitish Kumar on ghastly murder

AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi, whose party won five seats in the recently concluded Bihar assembly polls, also attacked Nitish Kumar on the issue. “Unbelievable cruelty. Prayers for victim & her family. These men ‘punished’ her for resisting molestation. @NitishKumar, where is your “tough on crime” policy now?”, he tweeted.

The victim’s mother Maimoona Khatoon told mediapersons that musclemen in the village have threatened her of serious for approaching the police. She said that police were bringing pressure on the family to have a compromise with the accused persons.

She also alleged that the police were not allowing the family to go outside as happened in case of the alleged gangrape and subsequent murder of Hathras  Dalit girl.
