NEW DELHI—The 82-year-old Bilkis Bano, wh had emerged as the face of Shaheen Bagh anti-CAA protests and was fondly called “Dadi of Shaheen Bagh”, was detained by the police as soon as she reached the border between Delhi and Haryana at Singhu to join farmers’ protest against three farm bills passed by the Narendra Modi-led BJP government at the Centre.
She told mediapersons present there that she was a daughter of farmer and will raise her voice for farmers. She said that the government must listen to the grievances of farmers and solve them amicably.
She recently featured in Time Magazine’s `100 Most Influential People of the Year’ list, along with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Thousands of farmers have been sitting on protests at several points between Delhi and Haryana borders as the Delhi Police are not allowing them to protest either at Jantar Mantar or at Ramlila Grounds. The police are asking them to go to Burari Grounds but farmers have refused to sit on dharna at Burari grounds, saying that the government wanted to keep them in ‘open jail’.
