NEW DELHI—Kapil Gujjar, who opened fire at CAA protesters at Shaheen Bagh in February 2020, has joined BJP in Ghaziabad on Wednesday.
He joined the saffron party in presence of Ghazibad BJP leaders.
According to reports reaching here, Kapil, after joining the BJP, said he joined the saffron party because the was working to strengthen the Hindu forces.
In February 2020, Kapil had fired three shots in air near the site where anti-CAA protesters were sitting on dharna at New Delhi’s Shaheen Bagh. However, no one was injured. He was overpowered by the police and his country-made gun was seized.
Kapil was later on released by the court on March 7, 2020, after signing a bond of Rs. 25,000, promising not to repeat the offence.
After being overpowered by the police, Kapil had shouted “Jai Shri Ram” slogans and said that “Only Hindus will have say in India” India is for Hindus only” (Hamare desh me aur kisi ki nahi chalegi, sirf Hinduon ki chalegi).
