President Donates Rs. 5 lakh for Construction of Ram Temple

NEW DELHI—President Ram Nath Kovind on Friday donated a sum of Rs. 5 lakh for the construction of Ram Temple in Ayodhya. Madhya Pradesh chief minister Shivraj Singh has donated an amount of Rs. 1 lakh for the temple.

According to ANI news agency, the President donated an amount of Rs. 5,01,000 to Ram Janmabhoomi Teerath Kshetra Trust set up by the government to look after the construction and management of the Ram Temple. The temple is being built over the site where once the Babri Masjid stood.

Vishwa Hindu Parishad’s international working president Aloku Kumar were among those in a delegation who had gone to President to seek donation for the temple.

ANI quoted Alok Kumar having said, “He(President) is the first citizen of the country so we went to him to initiate this drive. He donated a sum of Rs. 5,01,000”.

The VHP and other orgainsations associated with it have launched the fund-raising drive from January 15 to February 5.

The VHP leaders and workers are going to Hindu families in different parts of the country seeking donation for the temple. Nripendra Mishra, former principal secretary to prime minister and K K Sharma, former BSF director general are ion different committees to look after temple construction and management.

The total cost of the temple complex is estimated to be Rs. 1100 crores, including Rs. 400 to be spent on temple itself.

For Bihar deputy chief minister Sushil Kumar Modi is also leading a fund drive for temple in Patna.
