NEW DELHI—The Meerut police have begun investigations into the alleged inflammatory and unconstitutional statements made by the speakers attending the ‘ Hindu Panchayat’ meet at Chaudhary Charan Singh University in Meerut City in Uttar Pradesh on January 10.
The orators in their usual anti-Muslim charade issued statements like social and economic boycott of the Muslim community and appealed for an armed struggle for establishing Hindu Rashtra.
Unchecked far right extremist organizations have been regularly issuing threats to the Muslim community for building up Hindu Rashtra in violation of the constitution, citizens alleged.
The programme was organized in Brahaspati Bhavan by Shankaracharya Parishad and Bhagyoday Foundation. A video of far right orator Shankaracharya Swami Anand Swaroop has gone viral on social media where viewers complained about his anti-Muslim rhetoric and several objectionable statements against the minorities.
University proctor Dr Veer Pal Singh, when contacted by India Tomorrow, said, “ I did not participate in the programme, so I am unaware of it . The programme was not there in the university but in one of the departments,” he said. When asked about prior permission, he said, “My work is to enforce discipline but permission is given by the registrar”, he said. Registar Dhirendra Singh Verma said, “ I was not present for the programme and not aware about the details. The university is not responsible for the statements made. Whoever comes seeking the hall, is given permission”. He disconnected the call when specifically asked about the inflammatory speeches delivered in violation of the Constitution.
Swami’s remarks have been widely condemned by progressive intellectuals across the country who described the outburst as biased and divisive on communal lines. Swami said, “You decide that we will not buy things from Muslim traders. If you resort to social, political and economic boycott of Muslims, then only they will embrace Hinduism by renouncing Islam. In the next four years, we will disenfranchise the Muslims and Christians and snatch away their right to vote as part of Hindu Rashtra mission”.
In his appeal, he said “The bugle of fight has been sounded and keep arms to protect yourself. If you don’t get alert then it would be over. We don’t trust police and in the next few years, we are readying a youth Hindutva army of one crore people armed with swords.” Swami said, “Muslims will have to abandon the Quran and Namaz. You decide for public boycott of Muslims. Post conversion to Hinduism, the remaining Muslims and Christians will lose their right to vote in Hindu Rashtra and will accept Hinduism of Hindu Rashtra,” he said.
Akhilesh Narayan, SP Meerut City, told India Tomorrow, “We have received information that some inflammatory statements were made during this programme and a reply from the university has been sought in this regard. Details like CCTV recording and also video camera recording of the programme have been sought from the concerned authorities”.
