NEW DELHI—In a big setback to the Congress party in Puducherry on Monday, Dongress-DMK government in Puducheery lost majority in the State Assembly, resulting into Chief Minister V Narayanasamy submitting his resignation to Lieutenant Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan on Monday, 22 February.
This resulted in fall of the Congress-DMK government in the union territory.
ANI news agency quoted Narayanasamy having termed it as ‘murder of democracy’.
“The Speaker’s ruling is incorrect. BJP govt at the Centre, NR Congress & AIADMK have succeeded in dislodging our govt by using voting power used by 3 nominated members. This is murder of democracy. The people of Puducherry and this country will teach them a lesson,” Narayansamy is quoted to have said by news agencies.
Accusing the Central government and the Opposition, Narayanasamy said that former Lt Governor Kiran Bedi and the Central government had colluded with Opposition parties to topple his government.
Out of a total strength of 26 MLAs in the House, Congress-DMK now have only 12 MLAs
(including an Independent) , while the Opposition have 14 MLAs.
The next assembly elections in Puducherry are due just three months away.
