`Book Baba Ramdev Under Epidemic Diseases Act’: Doctors Ask Centre As They Plan To Hold Protest Against Yoga Guru

Ishfaq-ul-Hassan | India Tomorrow

SRINAGAR—From Kashmir to Kanyakumari, doctors are bracing up for a major showdown against Yoga Guru Baba Ramdev for his disparaging remarks against the allopathic system of medicine.

Leading the charge is the Federation of Resident Doctors’ Association (FORDA), which has decided to stage a nationwide protest on June 1 against Ramdev.

“Even after raising objections to statements by Ram Kishan Yadav (Ramdev Babab), no action has been taken yet. We are hereby declaring nationwide black day protest on June 1 at workplaces without hampering healthcare services” FORDA tweeted.

FORDA also tweeted a press statement and tagged union health minister Dr. Harsh Vardhan and the union ministry of health and family welfare.

“The supreme sacrifice of health care workers, police personnel and others during the Covid pandemic is being subjected to insensitive, inhuman and insulting statements from Ram Kishan Yadav alias Ramdev Baba.  Ramdev’s comments could lead to vaccine hesitancy among people. An undated video in which Ramdev claims that lakhs of doctors have died despite taking both doses of Covid-19 vaccines had gone viral on social media,” said Dr. Manish, FORDA President said in a statement.

Though Ramdev withdrew his statement, he asked 25 questions to the Indian Medical Association (IMA ) in an ‘open letter’ which sparked anger across doctors.

FORDA said it will hold a nationwide black day protest on June 1 to voice its protest against the “illogical, unscientific, demeaning and derogatory statements of Ram Kishan Yadav” against Corona warriors and modern medicine.

“Yoga guru should be charged under relevant sections of the Epidemic Diseases Act, 1897 if he fails to apologize for his statement. We once again emphasize that modern medicine is never against any form of medicine including Ayurveda but against insensitive statements of Ram Yadav,” FORDA said.

Doctors Association Kashmir too has joined the chorus and decided to black day protest while bearing black bandages on June 1 across Jammu and Kashmir.

“The recent comments by Baba Ramdev wherein he says thousands of doctors have died even after getting the double dose of vaccines. What kind of doctors are they if they could not save themselves? has hurt the entire medical fraternity of this country. The statement of Baba Ramdev at a time when frontline Health care workers are waging a war against an invisible enemy, to utter such irresponsible and callous statements is highly condemnable,” said Dr MY Tak, President of Doctors Association Kashmir.

Dr. Tak said ever since WHO declared Covid-19 a global pandemic, it was the frontline HCWs who took up the challenge of meeting this killer invisible enemy head-on, without caring for their own safety or of their family. But issuing such vitriolic & hateful statements against frontline Health workers mock them & their sacrifice.

“Thousands of frontline HCWs have perished in this pandemic, instead of showing gratitude towards them, Ramdev was seen mocking them in the most shallow and perverse manner,” he said.
