NEW DELHI—The moral, social, economic and political conditions of our country are degrading very fast. The main reasons for this unfortunate situation are the policies of the ruling dispensation. They have neither vision nor broadmindedness. They do not understand how nations rise and fall. They suffer from a lack of understanding of ethos of this great country. It is a nation of nations, comprising diverse religious, ethnic, linguistic and regional groups. The tragedy is that they refuse to learn any lesson from disintegration of the great Communist regime of the erstwhile USSR and other countries. God forbid, if the tragedy happens, the BJP would be squarely responsible for it. No eye would weep for its rout as all eyes would be busy weeping for the destruction of the great Indian experience.
They seem to have only one-point programme: How to stick to power and perpetuate it. They were engaged in daydreaming of Congress-free and Muslim-free India. They would be blamed by future historians for a truncated or disintegrated India if they don’t correct their course. Political parties come and go. But they seem to be undoing the very idea of India, pushing it to the point of no return.
See what is happening in Assam. The present C.M. Himanta Biswa Sarma is acting like a dictator. Instead of working for uplifting this so-called Bimaru State, he is talking about cow protection, beef ban and coercive family planning programme. He is encouraging police to adopt questionable methods to deal with petty criminals. He has given free hand to police to shoot, main or kill small-time law breakers. The anti-Muslim, anti-Dalit and anti-poor stance is clearly discernible in his policies. Within a short period of two months since Mr. Sarma took over, at least 23 persons have been shot at or may have died in police custody. He has given full freedom to trigger-happy police personnel to adopt extreme measures. More than 10 people have been killed in fake encounters. The Assam Human Rights Commission has taken suo moto cognisance of the situation.
U.P. chief minister Mr. Yogi has raised the bogey of forced conversion and ISI sponsored terror plans. The targets are Muslims, who are being shown as the fifth column working for some foreign power. The objective is clear: To win the forthcoming elections in the state by hook or by crook, especially by communalising the Hindu mind and polarising the voters.
Having failed in every field, the ruling dispensation has one-point programme: Fill the minds of the Hindu majority with hate for Muslims, show Muslims as enemies and do everything to harm the Muslims and Dalits and capture Hindu votes.
This is the most dangerous policy. It is bound to take us onto the road of anarchy and destruction. Citizens of UP should say no to divisive powers, join hands and trounce the forces of communalism and destruction.
