LUCKNOW—The Deoria police in Eastern Uttar Pradesh have taken into custody grandparents of a teenage girl who died after being thrashed up by the family members on Thursday.
A police complaint filed by the girl’s mother said that the family members beat up the girl badly because she insisted on wearing jeans on Monday.
The family members disposed of the body after her death, but it was spotted by the police because it got stuck in the railings of an over-bridge from where the body was thrown down.
The post-mortem examination confirmed that the girl had received severe injuries all over the body and fracture in the head. The girl has been identified as 17-year-old Neha Paswan.
Investigating officer Ram Mohan Singh told mediapersons that the reason behind thrashing of the girl was not very convincing. The police, he said, are investigating the matter further because there could be some other reasons which the family is trying to hide.
Police said that they had taken grandparents in custody and interrogating them.
Vivek, younger brother of the victim, told media persons that her grandparents and uncles were abusing her for her dressing preference while thrashing her. He said that the grandparents and uncles had objected to her wearing of jeans and on Monday also, they had objected to wearing of jeans.
