NEW DELHI—Jamaat-e-Islami Hind (JIH) vice-president Prof Mohammad Salim Engineer has strongly condemned the killing of Junaid and Nasir in the jungles of Peeru village of Bhiwani district in Haryana and demanded an impartial probe.

The victims, who were burnt alive in their Bolero car after being kidnapped, belonged to Gopalgarh in the Bharatpur district of Rajasthan. The Haryana police have now transferred the case to Rajasthan as the FIR about the kidnapping was registered in the Gopalgarh police station of Rajasthan. The charred bodies of the two youths were found in the wee hours of February 15.

In a media statement, the JIH vice-president said, “We unequivocally condemn the gruesome manner in which Junaid and Nasir were allegedly beaten, abducted, murdered, and burnt to death by cow vigilantes in Bhiwani, Haryana. According to the relatives of the deceased, the two were first badly beaten by 8 to 10 men and then kidnapped by their assaulters.”

“The family members of the victims have blamed members of the Bajrang Dal and other cow vigilantes for the alleged murder and abduction,” Prof. Salim said.

“Jamaat-e-Islami Hind feels that such gruesome incidents of violence indicate a breakdown in the law and order situation. It is a reflection of the growing confidence of communal and anti-social elements in society that they will not be punished for their crimes and that they are free to intimidate and commit acts of violence against members of a particular community at the behest of their political masters,” the JIH leader pointed out.

Prof. Salim demanded “an impartial probe into the incident and a statement from the Chief Minister of Haryana.”

The perpetrators of this crime must be booked at the earliest and awarded exemplary punishment. A delegation of civil society and leaders of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind would shortly visit Bharatpur and Bhiwani for fact-finding and meeting the concerned officials and police officers,” the JIH vice-president said in the statement.
