New Delhi: Human rights activist Nadeem Khan representing the Association for Protection of Civil Rights (APCR) and Communist Party of India leader Annie Raja were detained by Delhi police when they were protesting along with dozens of others against the ongoing genocide in Gaza.
They were protesting in front of the Embassy of Israel in India when they were detained.
Their detention was condemned by many, including former Delhi Minorities Commission chairman Dr. Zafarul Islam Khan. He expressed surprise that while the Government of India officially opposed genocide in Palestine, the Delhi police detained and harassed activists and politicians demanding an end to the ongoing massacre by demonstrating outside the Israeli embassy.
“So disgusting. Does India support genocide in Gaza? Com. Annie raja and Nadeem khan protested peacefully… when police harassed and detained them today. Currently, friends from Indians for Palestine are at the Madhur Marg police station,” said Dr. Khan in a post on social media platform X.
