NEW DELHI: Jamaat-e-Islami Hind (JIH) Vice-President Malik Motasim Khan and JIH National Secretary Shafi Madani have expressed grave concern over the recent anti-Muslim violence in the Ranirbazar area of Tripura and called for immediate state intervention to help the victims.

In a press statement issued by the JIH, Mr. Khan highlighted that the attacks targeted innocent Muslim families, destroying homes, vehicles, and livestock. Approximately 30 families have been left devastated and homeless. Mr. Khan condemned the violence, which he described as perpetrated by anti-social elements allegedly linked to Hindutva groups. He noted a disturbing rise in communal tensions in Tripura.

Mr. Khan emphasized that the situation is further aggravated by the apparent complicity or negligence of local authorities, including a state minister who was present during the attacks but failed to intervene. He stressed that the state must take a firm stand against any group inciting communal hatred and violence.

“We urgently call for government intervention to address this crisis,” Mr. Khan stated. He also pointed out that the violence stems from dangerous narratives of “retaliatory justice” that falsely accuse the Muslim community and justify such communal violence.

“We condemn this calculated campaign of hate in the strongest terms. It is particularly troubling that the state government, led by Chief Minister Manik Saha, has remained silent, offering no support or assurance to the victims. The lack of decisive action from opposition leaders further exacerbates the political and administrative failures in addressing this grave situation. The volatile nature of the situation risks escalating into a larger communal conflict if not addressed promptly.”

JIH National Secretary Mr. Madani highlighted the humanitarian crisis resulting from the violence. He reported that affected families are now without shelter, food, and basic necessities, enduring both physical and emotional distress.

“Despite this dire situation, the local administration has imposed severe restrictions on access to the affected areas, effectively blocking relief efforts and preventing media coverage. This deliberate media blackout and denial of humanitarian assistance are not only unjust but also a blatant violation of the victims’ rights. We strongly urge the immediate lifting of these restrictions to allow humanitarian organizations to provide essential relief. The government must ensure the safety and security of all communities in Tripura and deploy adequate security forces to prevent further violence,” Mr. Madani said.

He also emphasized that JIH would collaborate with other organizations to promote communal harmony and rebuild trust between communities in Tripura.

“The events in Ranirbazar underscore the destructive impact of unchecked communalism and highlight the need for sustained efforts to protect the rights and dignity of all citizens,” Mr. Madani asserted.

He reaffirmed Jamaat-e-Islami Hind’s commitment to supporting the victims and pushing for long-term peace, justice, and reconciliation in the region. Mr. Madani called on civil society and human rights organizations to join in demanding justice and rehabilitation for the victims.
