New Delhi, 10 March 2014: Poverty, wherever it exists in any form, is an eloquent commentary on failure of our society, said Mohammad Hamid Ansari, Vice President of India while releasing a book “Sunrise in Slums” here in the National Capital on Monday. The book is authored by renowned poet Padma award winner Dr. Ravindra Nath Shrivastava ‘Rajhans’.

“Economists look at it (poverty) in one way and political figures look at it in a different way. Both are valid and both are incomplete. Whenever poverty has been written about by a writer or poet, new meanings and sentiments emerge,” said the vice president adding that the translation of this book in other languages will help in its wider reach to people.

The book “Sunrise in Slums” is an anthology of Dr Shrivastava’s poems in Hindi and is unique in the sense that it has poems both in Hindi and its translated version in English side by side, to reach out to larger audience. It is essentially on the helpless and hapless street children of the Third World countries, who look for the support of the privileged sections of the society so that they could also lead their childhood phase of life like a normal child.
