New Delhi, 06 April 2014: While an enquiry has been started by Election Commission of India into alleged hate speech of Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP)’s Uttar Pradesh chief Amit Shah, an FIR was lodged against him on Sunday in Bijnor district.

In an election speech on Thursday in Shamli district, neighboring district of Muzaffarnagar, Shah had reportedly told a gathering of Jats: “The elections in Uttar Pradesh, especially in western Uttar Pradesh, is an election for honour, for seeking revenge for the insult, and for teaching a lesson to those who committed injustice.”
BJP has condemned the FIR and said that it is a calculated design to communalise and polarise the election in western UP.
“This isn’t a bonafide FIR, it has been lodged for vote bank by the UP Government.” News agency ANI quoted BJP spokesperson Ravi Shankar Prasad as saying.
