New Delhi, 09 April 2014: Jamaat-e-Islami Hind has described the election manifesto of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) as destructive for the identity of minorities and other social groups and opposite to the requirements of justice.

Nusrat Ali, Secretary General of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, said Uniform Civil Code that BJP talked about in its manifesto is against the wider interests of the country. “In a plural society like India where people follow different religions, faiths and customs, how can one code be formulated particularly for religious affairs and implemented?” he asked.

“Despite this clear fact, the insistence of BJP on Uniform Civil Code reflects its fascist, communal, dictatorial and violent mindset,” he added.

Jamaat leader held BJP and its top leaders responsible for the demolition of Babri Masjid.

He said that rather than being ashamed and apologetic of the incident which damaged the reputation of the country in the world, and demanding legal action against culprits, BJP reiterates to build temple on debris of the mosque. “It is a mockery of the constitution, law and judiciary of the country. It is like rubbing salt on the wounds of Muslims,” Nusrat Ali said in a media statement.

He called upon people to defeat candidates of communal forces in this Lok Sabha election to maintain peace and strengthen democracy in the country.
