New Delhi, 18 April 2014: Uttar Pradesh minister and senior leader of Samajwadi Party Azam Khan criticized the Election Commission (EC) order for lifting ban on BJP leader Amit Shah but continuing the ban on him and threatened to take this issue to the Supreme Court of India.

On April 11 the EC had banned both Khan and Shah from conducting public rallies after their alleged provocative speeches given in different places of UP were brought to its notice. On Thursday (April 17) EC lifted ban on Shah with a condition that he would not make any controversial speech in future. However, it continued the ban on Khan.

“Can any commission be above the Supreme Court? The Election Commission (EC) has a misunderstanding that its arbitrary powers can’t be challenged in any court,” PTI quoted Khan as saying.
“I shall approach the apex court and believe I will get justice,” Khan added.

“The action of the Commission reeks of undeclared Emergency…. I don’t know what the EC wants from me. It punished me without considering my reply. They have committed a huge legal blunder in my matter,” Khan blamed.
