Andhra Christians extend support for development of new states

Secunderabad, 01 June 2014: An Andhra Christian body has assured their support to the sustainable development of the new states of Telangana and Seemandhra while meeting with the Chief Ministers of both the states.

The Andhra Pradesh Bishops’ Council (APBC), an apex body of the Catholic Church in both the states of Telangana and Seemandhra, assured “the support of the Catholic Church and the Christian community for the just, inclusive, equitable and sustainable development of the new states.”

The church said that it would continue to pray for God’s blessing for the people of both states to realize a “Bangaru Telangana” and “Swarna Andhra Pradesh”.

A delegation from the APBC had also met with the chief ministers-designate of both the states and requested them to take action on the issues of the Church-run educational institutions and concerns of the Christian minority community.

The delegation met with K. Chandrashekar Rao, president of Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) and the first Chief Minister-designate of the new state of Telangana, in Hyderabad on 21 May. They also met the first Chief Minister-designate of Seemandhra and president of Telugu Desam Party (TDP), Chandrababu Naidu at the party office.
