Jaipur, 14 Oct 2014: Students, parents and education activists from several districts of Rajasthan gathered here on Monday and protested against the state government’s decision to merge around twenty thousand schools. They raised serious concerns at the steep dropout as immediate fallout of the merger move.

Paras Banjara, an activist from Kumbalgarh, said he surveyed 50 schools in his block and found that half of the students have stopped going to school following the merger, and most of them belong to poor Adivasi families.

The demonstration was held under the banner of Save Education – Save Schools Campaign.

Addressing the demonstrators, Komal Srivastava, one of the organizers, said the government decision to merge 17129 schools has affected around 10 lakh schoolchildren.
