New Delhi, 05 Nov 2014: A national consultation process will be held in January to evaluate the current progress in combating violence against women and improvise possible new solutions to the problem.

The consultation will be held in the run-up to the Beijing+20 global review scheduled next year and will be attended by civil society organisations and government officials, a release said here Wednesday.

The consultation will be implemented parallel to a youth promotion campaign.

The Centre for Social Research will run the youth programme in 10 universities across India and will involve India’s youth in the analysis and assessment of the progress that has been made in women’s empowerment since 1995.

It will sensitise and mobilise the next generation of leaders to step forward and contribute to the empowerment of women, the release said.

Centre for Social Research director Ranjana Kumari said: “The coincidence of the review and the development of a new global framework is being termed as a once in a generation opportunity to position gender equality, women’s rights and women’s empowerment at the centre of the global agenda.”

The 20th anniversary of the 1995 Beijing conference will be held next year.
