5.41 lakh unemployed youths from minorities got govt. loan in 5 years

New Delhi, 02 Dec 2014: In the last five years, around 5.41 lakh unemployed youths from six notified minorities have got government assistance in form of loans from the National Minorities Development and Finance Corporation (NMDFC). While about 73% of the beneficiaries are from the Muslim community, Christians form 25%.

Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, Minister of State for Minority Affairs, informed Rajya Sabha today that in 5 years (from 2009-10 to 31.10.2014), State Channelising Agencies of NMDFC disbursed loans among 5,41,209 youths from minorities communities. Some 73.32% of the beneficiaries were Muslims and 25.08% of them were Christians.

Under NMDFC scheme, as per the eligibility criterion for disbursement of loan, the candidate should belong to any of the 6 notified minority communities viz. Muslims, Christians, Sikhs, Buddhists, Jains and Parsis. The Annual Family income of the person should not exceed Rs.81,000 in Rural Area and Rs.1,03,000 in the Urban area.
