In Pictures: Christians Protest Against Attacks on Churches in Delhi

New Delhi, 05 Feb 2015: Hundreds of people from the Delhi Christian community held a protest demonstration outside the Sacred Heart Cathedral church near Indian Parliament here today demanding arrest of the culprits behind a series of attacks on churches in last two months in the national capital.

Police personnel deployed in a big number tried to push the protestors inside the church compound as the police imposed section 144. But at the same time, they dragged scores of them to the buses put in standby position and detained them. Among them were several priests and nuns including Father Dominic Emmanuel. All of them were later released.

Chronology of church attacks in Delhi

1st Dec 2014: A Catholic church was gutted in fire in east Delhi’s Dilshad Garden area.
6th Dec 2014: Some unidentified people threw stones at Our Lady of Fatima Forane Church at Jasola in south Delhi and broke window panes during the evening Mass.
4th Jan 2015: A minor fire was reported from a church in Rohini in west Delhi. The Christmas crib outside was charred.
14th Jan 2015: Our Lady of Graces Church was vandalized at Vikaspuri in west Delhi.
2nd Feb 2015: St. Alphonsa’s church in south Delhi’s Vasant Kunj area was ransacked and a few sacred items and a DVD player were stolen.
