New Delhi, 02 March 2015: Rights activists from different states took out a march near Parliament House here demanding release of ‘innocents’ who are languishing in jails under some stringent laws like UAPA and AFSPA.

“The state is creating a military state by deliberately implementing silent emergency through AFSPA and UAPA”, alleged T Muhammed Velom, Kerala president of Solidarity – the group which had organized the protest march.

Others who addressed the marchers included rights activists Ragavan from Lokaraj Sangathan and KP Sasi.

Marchers were carrying several placards including one with the picture of imprisoned journalist KK Shahina. In Jan 2013, the Karnataka Police had filed charge sheets against Shahina, Kerala reporter of Tehelka magazine accusing her of criminal conspiracy and threatening and influencing the witnesses in the Bangalore serial bomb blast case in which Peoples Democratic Party Chairman Abdul Nasar Madani is an accused. The Kerala Union of Working Journalists has also in the past protested and condemned the case against Shahina and termed it a fabricated one.
