African Tablighi Jamaat team attacked in MP; Muslim leaders condemn it, appeal for peace

Bhopal / New Delhi, 04 March 2015: At least three members of a Tablighi Jamaat team from South Africa were wounded by an armed attacker in Mandideep area in Raisen district of Madhya Pradesh. The police took them to the local hospital where they are being treated. Meanwhile, Muslim organizations have condemned the attack and also appealed to people to maintain peace and communal harmony.

“We condemn the attack on the Tablighi Jamaat team from Africa in Mandideep in which three people were injured. The police had admitted them to National Hospital. I talked to Superintendent of Police of Raisen and he said a case has been registered under Article 307 against the attacker,” said Arif Masood, Congress leader and Member of All India Muslim Personal Law Board.

He appealed for peace. The incident took place on 01 March.

“I appeal to people of Bhopal that they should not be misguided by any and maintain peace and communal harmony. The Police are taking action against the culprit,” said Masood.

Inamur Rahman, Media Secretary of All India Ideal Teachers Association, has also condemned the attack.

“We condemn the attack in strong words. We appeal to the government and local administration to lodge case against the culprits under stringent laws and arrest them. The Muslim community should show unity on this issue to ensure justice to the victims,” Rahman said in a statement.
