New Delhi, 14 March 2015: Former Chief Justice of Delhi High Court Rajindar Sachar has strongly condemned former judge of Supreme Court Markandey Katju for his statement about Mahatma Gandhi. Katju had last week written on his blog that Gandhi was a British agent. While terming his statement as “outrageous, senile” Justice Sachar said Katju, by this statement, has qualified to be successor to Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat.

“The outrageous, senile statement on blog by Justice Katju calling Gandhi Ji “an British Agent who did great harm to India” being the raving of out of office frustrated individual deserves to be rejected with the contempt it deserves,” said Sachar who is former president of People’s Union for Civil Liberties (PUCL)

“By this statement Katju has qualified himself to be the fittest successor to Mohan Bhagwat, RSS Chief. Had Churchill been alive he would have embraced Katju and included him the senior most position in his cabinet of 1940,” said Sachar in a statement.

RSS was banned by the government of India after the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi in 1948. The assassin Nathuram Godse was said to be associated with RSS. The Hindu right group has since hardly condemned Godse’s act. Rather, several saffron outfits have considered him a hero and in the recent time, there were efforts in different parts of the country to set up a temple or statue in his name.
