New Delhi/Muzaffarnagar, 10 June 2015: A riot victim turned activist was on Wednesday detained by Muzaffarnagar police when he took out his licensed revolver in ‘self defense’ as he was threatened by a rape accused in the premises of Muzaffarnagar District Court.

Naseem Ahmad, a resident of Fugana village in Muzaffarnagar, claimed that he was on his way to meet his lawyer to discuss about his case, but inside the court premises he pointed out that Amar Pal, an accused for raping his wife during the riots, was accosting him.

“They already had given me death threat over phone and I complained to the police. Today when I noticed him accosting me behind a four wheeler, I took out my licensed revolver in self defense,” Ahmad told IndiaTomorrow.net over phone.

Police immediately detained Ahmad and took him to Civil Lines Police Station.

Ahmad said that police were under influence of ‘perpetrators’ and despite his shouting that they have weapons inside the vehicle, police didn’t search them and took him to the police station and released after four hours.

“The SHO, who detained me, said that I am drunk. I told him I never consume it, then he asked a police constable to pour some alcohol in my mouth to substantiate his claim,” he blamed.

But the constable did not do it,” he added

“It was a conspiracy against me and I am going to lodge a complaint about it,” he further said.

Ahmad was also helping other 6 gang rape victims in the case.
On Tuesday, a local court in Muzaffarnagar rejected the closure report submitted by SIT and summoned the five gang rape accused including Pal to appear before court on August 03.

Riots broke out in Muzaffarnagar and Shamli districts in September 2013 which claimed 62 lives and more than 50,000 people were displaced.
