New Delhi, 10 Aug 2015: More than one thousand farmers from different parts of the country demonstrated under the banner of Swaraj Abhiyan, an outfit of former leaders of Aam Aadmi Party Yogendra Yadav and Prashant Bhushan, near Parliament House here on Monday. Their demands included withdrawal of land acquisition bill and increase in price of crops.
Leading from front, Yadav and Bhushan addressed the huge rally of farmers on various issues.
Addressing the gathering, Bhushan, who is also a senior lawyer of Supreme Court, said that the government is trying to give benefit to the multinational companies by snatching the right of the farmers. “I hope the day when lakhs and crores of people from the country will stand with farmers; the government will have to listen to the voice of farmer community,” he said and urged countrymen to stand with farmers.
“We came here to demand increase in the price of crops, withdrawal of the land acquisition bill, and scheme of farmer pension and Rs 15000 as an annual grant for every farmer. The power of farmers’ unity can change the country” Swami Nath Varma, a farmer who had come from Ballia district in Uttar Pradesh, told IndiaTomorrow.net.
Kumar Patel, a farmer from Katni district in Madhya Pradesh, said: “We are protesting against land occupation by the government. My land itself has been occupied by the government. We have hope with this rally”.
