New Delhi, 14 Sep 2015: The Supreme Court of India on Monday reportedly agreed to hear a petition of sacked IPS officer Sanjiv Bhatt against national president of Bharatiya Janata Party Amit Shah in the Gujarat riot 2002 case.

Bhatt had moved the apex court seeking to make BJP chief Shah a party in his pending petition alleging PM Narendra Modi’s role in the Gujarat riots as well as foisting false cases against him.

“Supreme Court agrees to hear sacked Gujarat cop Sanjiv Bhatt’s petition against BJP chief Amit Shah in Gujarat Riots case,” tweeted Live Law India.

According to Times of India, Bhatt has also sought to make Gurumurthy Swaminathan a party in his petition which was filed in 2011 alleging that he was present in a meeting called by the then CM Narendra Modi that allegedly decided to allow Hindu mob to go on rampage after 2002 Godhra incident.

Bhatt’s new application was mentioned by senior advocates Kapil Sibal and Indira Jaising before a bench headed by Chief Justice HL Dattu.

Gujarat IPS Officer Sanjiv Bhatt had accused the then Gujarat chief minister Modi for his alleged role in the Gujarat riots 2002.

Bhatt was dismissed from services by the Union Home Ministry on 19th Aug 2015. He was suspended in 2011 for allegedly not showing up at work, for misusing his official car and for threatening a constable.

Deposing before the Nanavati Mehta Commission on 23rd May 2011, Bhatt had said that after he was summoned by the Supreme Court appointed special investigation team, Amit Shah, the former minister of state (home affairs), had advised him not to reveal the truth before them.

“When I was summoned by the Supreme Court-appointed SIT and the state government could gauge what I was going to depose, Shah had pressured me not to reveal the truth before the committee,” Bhatt told the commission, claimed India Today in a report on 24th May 2011.

More than 1200 (official figure), mostly Muslims, were killed during the riots in Feb-March 2002 following the Godhra train carnage in which around 60 Hindu karsevaks were killed.
