Jeddah, 16 Sep 2015: Putting to rest all speculations about compensation to Makkah crane crash victims, King Salman on Tuesday ordered massive payouts for the families of those killed and injured in the Friday accident at the Grand Mosque (Masjid-e Haram), which claimed the lives of 111 people and injured over 238.

In a royal decree, Saudi king announced that one million Saudi Riyal would be paid to each victim’s family, same amount to those whose injuries resulted in permanent disability, and half million Saudi Riyal for each of the injured, the Saudi Press Agency reported.

The king also announced that Saudi Arabia would host two family members of those who died, for next year’s Haj. Those who were injured and cannot complete their rituals this year would be able to return next year as the king’s guests. The family members of the injured in hospitals for treatment would be granted visit visas to remain in the Kingdom, said Arab News.

The victims were from different countries — 11 of the deceased were from India.

One million Saudi Riyal is equal to about Rs 1.7 crore.
