Grand Alliance of Nitish-Lalu releases list of 242 candidates including 33 Muslims

By IndiaTomorrow.net,Patna, 23 Sep 2015: Managing the representation of all sections, the grand alliance of Janata Dal United, Rashtriya Janata Dal and Congress on Wednesday jointly released the list of candidates for 242 Assembly seats. The list includes 33 Muslims.

While the grand alliance fielded 134 candidates from backward classes, 40 candidates from Scheduled Tribes and Scheduled Castes and 39 candidates from others. Among the 242 candidates, there are 25 women.

“We have tried to ensure representation to all sections of society. There are no complaints within the grand alliance over the names of candidates and seat adjustments,” said Nitish Kumar at a joint conference along with RJD state president Ram Chandra Purve and state Congress president Ashok Choudhary here in the state capital.

JD(U) and RJD will contest 101 seats each while Congress will fight election on remaining 41 seats.

RJD has fielded 16 Muslim candidates, Congress 10 Muslims and JD(U) has given ticket to 7 Muslims.

Meanwhile, BJP-led National Democratic Alliance has also fielded two Muslim candidates.

At the same time, some Muslim parties such as Asaduddin Owaisi’s All India Majlis-e Ittehadul Muslimeen, and Social Democratic Party of Indian have also announced to contest the Bihar assembly elections.

In the 2010 Assembly polls, 19 Muslim candidates from different parties had won.

The five-phase poll for the new Bihar assembly will be held in Oct-Nov. While the first phase will be held on 12 Oct, the last phase on 5 Nov. Votes will be counted on 8 Nov.
