New Delhi, 18 Dec 2015: “India is the country of Bhagat Singh, Ashfaqullah Khan, Veer Abdul Hameed. It is the country of Subhash Chandra Bose and Chandra Shekhar Azad. It is the country of Gandhi. We cannot let it become a country of Godse,” said Acharya Pramod Krishnan.
Mahatma Gandhi was assassinated by Nathuram Godse in 1948.
While addressing a big public conference organized by All India Muslim Personal Law Board last week in in Amroha of Uttar Pradesh, Acharya Krishnan came down heavily on Hindu right politics and violence committed by people in the name of Hinduism or Islam.
“Bhagat Singh was not hanged by a Muslim. Gandhi was not assassinated by a Muslim. Indira Gandhi was not killed by any Muslim. Rajiv Gandhi was not blown up by a Muslim. Then who is saying that Muslims have become terrorist,” asked the Hindu saint, who is Pitadhishwar of Kalkidham Sambhal.
But he also condemned terrorism in the name of Islam.
“Giving water to a thirsty is Islam. Embracing a poor is Islam. Feeding a hungry is Islam. Love, affection and selflessness are Islam. Killing innocents with AK-47 cannot be Islam,” he said and also condemned violence in the name of Islam.
“Kindness is Hindutva. Forgiveness is Hindutva. Love is Hindutva. Communal harmony is Hindutva. Killing of unarmed Akhlaque cannot be Hindutva. Our country is under threat. We have to protect it,” he said.
He also denounced attempts to question patriotism of Muslims.
“No Muslim will go to Pakistan. Muslims do not need to show proof of their patriotism. If one is Muslim, it is enough to know that he is a patriotic Indian,” said Acharya.
