Hyderabad, Jan 22: A day after revoking the suspension of five Dalit research scholars including Rohit Vemula, who committed suicide this past Sunday, the Hyderabad University on Friday announced an ex gratia amount of Rs eight lakh for Rohit’s family.
Dalit PhD scholar Rohit Vemula was found hanging at Hyderabad University’s hostel room located on the varsity campus in Hyderabad. Rohit was among the five research scholars suspended from the hostel in Aug 2015 for the rest of their study period for allegedly attacking a saffron leader.
