London, Jan 26: To protest over the suicide of Dalit research scholar Rohit Vemula and express solidarity with hunger-striking students of Hyderabad University, several Dalit organisations of United Kingdom together with South Asian diaspora and students’ groups organised a candlelight vigil at the Indian High Commission here on Monday.
The protestors said they were deeply disturbed and saddened to hear of the death of Dalit research scholar Rohith Vemula in the University of Hyderabad. They handed in a letter addressed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi making a number of demands including dismissal of Cabinet ministers Smriti Irani and Bandaru Dattatreya and dismissal of Vice Chancellor of the varsity Appa Rao Podile.
