New Delhi, Feb 16: One of the largest Muslim organizations in the country has asked the Samajwadi Party government of Uttar Pradesh to fulfill the promise about reservation for Muslims in the state and asked it not to befool the minority community.

At a massive public gathering in Meerut, former Member of Parliament Maulana Mahmood Madani, who is General Secretary of Jamiat Ulama-e-Hind, demanded the UP government led by Akhilesh Yadav to legislate for grant of reservation to the Muslim community, holding them, socially, economically and educationally backward, on the pattern of Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Kerala.

Maulana Madani, however, maintained that the Samajawadi Party’s promise of 18 percent reservation (that it made before the 2012 Assembly elections) was technically and legally wrong.

“Maulana Madani warned the Samajwadi government to stop befooling the minority community, otherwise the next election which is just one year away then you cannot trap one who has already been cheated,” said Maulana Abdul Hameed Noumani, Press Secretary of Jamiat.

Jamiat also asked the center “to stop making conspiracy against the Muslim community and concentrate on inclusive development of the nation,” Noumani informed.

Uttar Pradesh will go to Assembly polls in 2017.
