New Delhi, Feb 22: The Delhi Union of Journalists has expressed serious concern at the harassment of journalists who were covering the JNU incident. According to media reports, several journalists of national dailies and TV channels were questioned and their doors knocked by the police without prior information in connection with the ongoing controversy.

“We are seriously concerned at harassment of journalists who have been covering the JNU imbroglio and the attacks on journalists even while doing their duty in the courts covering such incidents. Not only this we are getting reports about journalists who were students of JNU in years gone by being targeted,” said the union in a statement on Monday.

“While we would not like to comment further for the time being, we are increasingly getting concerned at attempts to resurrect the ghost of McCarthyism (is the practice of making accusations of subversion or treason without proper regard for evidence. It also means “the practice of making unfair allegations or using unfair investigative techniques, especially in order to restrict dissent or political criticism),” it said.
