New Delhi, April 23: A high-level delegation of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, one of the largest socio-religious Muslim organizations in the country, met Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal and congratulated him for the success of Odd-Even vehicular traffic scheme, for his efforts to remove the problem of water and electricity and his attempt to put an end to corruption. The delegation urged him to also give attention to management of waqf properties and basic amenities in the Muslim-dominated areas of the national capital.

Leading the delegation, Maulana Syed Jalaluddin Umari, Ameer (national president) of Jamaat reminded the chief minister that Muslim residents of Delhi still lack basic civic amenities as there is no provision for sanitation and other basic services in the areas.

Jamaat delegation also sought his urgent attention to the issue of waqf properties and urged him to make efforts towards removing the illegal possession of waqf properties. Jamaat leader requested Kejriwal to set an example before the nation by making an ideal approach towards waqf properties. There are 123 waqf properties in Delhi which the UPA government had promised to hand over to the Muslim community but the issue is still pending.

Jamaat delegation also advised the Delhi CM to ban consumption of liquor in Delhi as Bihar CM Nitish Kumar has done in Bihar.

The Delhi CM assured the delegation that he will support any campaign against alcohol and his government has given priority to education and healthcare and will set up school and hospital if the right land is given to him.

Other members of the delegation included Secretary General of Jamaat Mohammad Salim Engineer, Deputy Presidents Nusrat Ali and Syed Saadatullah Husseini and Secretary Mohammad Ahmed.

Aam Aadmi Party MLA and Delhi Waqf Board chairman Amanatullah Khan had accompanied the delegation.
