Nine-member ‘house committee’ to probe corruption in MCD

New Delhi, June 11: The Delhi Assembly on Friday constituted a nine-member “house committee” to inquire into alleged corruption and irregularities in the municipal corporations of Delhi and to suggest measures for improvement in its functioning.

The committee will submit its report to the speaker before the commencement of the sixth session on the assembly.

The proposal to constitute this committee was moved by Malviya Nagar legislator Somnath Bharti and was passed by the house, which is dominated by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).

The committee will comprise AAP MLAs Ajesh Yadav, Kartar Singh Tanwar, Mahendra Yadav, Naresh Balyan, Rajesh Gupta, Sahi Ram, Sharad Kumar, Bhawana Gaur and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) legislator Jagdish Pradhan.

The committee will study the existing set up of the municipal corporations in Delhi and recommend measures to improve its functioning in all sphares including administration, sanitation, primary health and education and revenue generation.

It will also study and recommend about the stability of continuing with the present setup of three municipal corporations.
