Ayodhya priests visit Hashim Ansari’s home, offer condolences to family

Ayodhya / New Delhi, July 20: Keeping aside the history of the long legal battle over Babri Masjid title suit for a while, leading Hindu priests of Ayodhya rushed to the home of Hashim Ansari, the oldest litigant of Babri Masjid, as soon as they heard about his death this morning. They offered condolences to Ansari’s family.

Ansari breathed his last this morning in Ayodhya at the age of 96. He was the first to file case against the installation of some idols in Babri Masjid in 1949. He was then only 28 years old.

Talking to IndiaTomorrow.net over phone, Mohammad Iqbal, son of Hashim Ansari, said that three leading Hindu priests including Mahant Gyan Das and Mahant Satyendra Das visited his home as they got the news about his father’s death. They offered condolences to the family.

He also informed that “around ten thousand people from different parts of Uttar Pradesh including Lucknow, Gorakhpur and Azamgarh took part in the funeral prayers this evening. ”

Iqbal further informed that three cabinet ministers of Uttar Pradesh government including Azam Khan also attended the funeral prayer.
