New Delhi, August 10: The streets of Varanasi witnessed a massive crowd walking behind the Congress president Sonia Gandhi a week ago. It was the biggest public show after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s during the Lok Sabha election campaign in the temple town in May 2014.

On the rally day (2nd August), the Congress party had also released several videos of the local people facing hardship in getting drinking water in the Lok Sabha constituency of PM Modi, particularly in his adopted village. One week later, Delhi saw PM Modi meeting heads of villages of his constituency.

While welcoming Village Pradhans (heads) from his Varanasi Lok Parliamentary constituency at his residence in New Delhi yesterday (Tuesday), Prime Minister Narendra Modi encouraged the Pradhans to work towards educating every girl child, and promoting Swacchta (cleanliness) in their respective villages. He emphasized that there should be no discrimination between boys and girls. He said Swachhta, or cleanliness, is the key to prosperity.

The Prime Minister urged each village head to resolve to undertake specific development initiatives during his or her tenure, which would result in a lasting legacy.
