Patna, Nov 21: In the wake of the deadly Indore-Patna express derailment killing around 130 passengers, former Railway Minister Lalu Prasad has cornered Prime Minister Narendra Modi over his bullet train plan and income losses of the Indian Railways in recent years.

“Rather than investing 1 Lacs Cr. in headline grabbing but loss making bullet trains,1st Modi Govt must look after Safety & Security measures,” tweeted former Bihar chief minister Lalu hours after the train accident near Kanpur on Sunday.

After expressing his grief over the tragedy, Lalu, in a series of tweets, raised various issues of the Railways particularly its income losses.

“Deeply saddened to hear abt loss of lives due to derailing of Patna-Indore Express. My best prayers& thoughts wth injured & affected families,” he said.

“For last 30 months, I have written many letters to PM requesting him to accord priority to safety & core operating performance of Railways…During my tenure all arrears of replacement were fully liquidated& adequate provisions were made based on actual requirements rather than residual basis…I ensured that over-aging assets were replaced in same year in which they fell due,” tweeted Lalu.

“Railway is trapped in vicious cycle of falling volumes, margins, productivity & market shares, rising unit costs & tariff and rising losses…Adopt My scale driven Strategy, “Play on Volumes, Reduce unit cost & price, Gain margins & Market shares & Earn billions of dollars in profits,” said Lalu sharing his own experiment when he was Railway Minister during Congress-led UPA-1 (2004-2009).

During his tenure, he had earned huge profits for the railways. His ideas earned him fame and he was invited within and outside the country to share his profit mantras.
