DSS launched in Bihar to counter RSS
IndiaTomorrow.net,
Patna, April 3: “The chariot of DSS will run over fake nationalists who are engaged in breaking the unity and integrity of the country,” announced Tej Pratap Yadav, Bihar Health Minister and elder son of Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Yadav here on Sunday. He was leading the first public march of Dharmanirpeksha (secular) Sevak Sangh (DSS), the outfit recently formed to take on Sangh Parivar including the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).

The rath yatra of DSS, taken out in the state capital of Patna, had hundreds of people chanting slogans against communal forces. Behind him on the chariot were standing a Hindu, a Muslim, a Sikh and a Christian.

The marchers were holding green flags with popular symbols of different religions printed on them.

Yadav junior thanked all religious leaders who joined the yatra and sent the message of social unity and integrity across.

The new initiative could be seen in the context of the sweeping victory of BJP in the recent Assembly elections in the neighbouring Uttar Pradesh. BJP alone won 312 seats in the 403-Member Assembly thanks to communal polarisation and massive division in non-BJP votes.

In Bihar Assembly elections of 2015, about one year after BJP got landslide victory in the Lok Sabha elections across the country including Bihar, the Grand Alliance of RJD, JD-U and Congress gave a huge blow to BJP. The saffron party could win only 53 seats in the 243-Member Assembly. The Grand Alliance, on the other hand, won 178 seats and formed the government. In the May 2014 Lok Sabha elections, the BJP alliance had won 31 out of 40 Lok Sabha seats (BJP alone won 22 seats) in Bihar while RJD could win only 4 seats and JD-U 2.
