New Delhi, June 28: Hundreds of people hit streets in various cities across the country on Wednesday to protest against the unchecked trend of mob lynching, mostly by self-styled brutal gangs of Gau Rakshaks. More than one dozen people have been killed in such incidents in the last two years.

#NotInMyName was the theme of this nationwide protest, signaling that they do not approve any such lynching even if it is being done in their name.

A massive demonstration was held at Jantar Mantar in Delhi.

Similar protests were held in Lucknow and other cities also.

This past Thursday, a 16-year-old student named Junaid Khan was beaten and then stabbed to death by a group of men in the Delhi-Mathura EMU local train near Palwal railway station in Haryana.

Meanwhile, in wake of this unending chain of mob lynchings, a civil society group has urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to bring Manav Suraksha Kanoon (MASUKA – Human Safety Law) with immediate effect. The group has also said that if the government does not bring MASUKA by the end of June, thousands of people will start sit-in at PM’s residence.
