New Delhi, July 17: Teachers of Jamia Millia Islamia on Monday staged a protest demonstration against the incidents of mob lynching in the name of cow protection. Wearing black bands on their arms and chests, the teachers were shouting slogans against the trend of mob violence.

“Incidents of mob lynching, which have been going on in our country, are a great challenge to the democracy. Innocent people are lynched by mobs in the name of cow protection…. We strongly condemn such attacks,” said Dr Veeramani S., Assistant Professor, Centre for Management Studies, Jamia Millia Islamia.

“Everyone has to live peacefully in this country because the salient feature of India is secular. We should not create one more slavery as it happened under the British rule. An Indian should not be enslaved by another Indian in the name of illegal acts like lynching and mob lynching,” he told IndiaTomorrow.net.

“Those lynching innocent people are real threat to the stability of the country because they are challenging the democracy and the law. We as professors and teachers strongly condemn such attacks,” said Dr Veeramani.

The protest call was jointly given by Jamia Teachers’ Association, Jamia School Teachers’ Association and Jamia Administrative Staff Association.

Talking to IndiaTomorrow.net, SM Mehmood, Secretary, Jamia Teachers Association said: “In order to instil confidence in students who come here from across the country, we are staging this protest against mob lynching. We want government to take concrete action to stop mob lynching. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been appealing against mob lynching but it has not stopped. The government must now take some concrete actions.”
