Kolkata, July 21: The Trinamool Congress is set to launch a three-week-long movement with the slogan “BJP Quit India”, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee announced here on Friday.

The movement will start on August 9 and last till August 30.

“We will launch the movement in every Lok Sabha and assembly constituency, block, city and village. I urge all my ministers, MPs, MLAs and block leaders to take part in the programme,” Banerjee said at a Trinamool Congress Martyrs Day rally.

The TMC chief said she would be present at the launch and close of the programme.

It was on August 9, 1942 that the Congress launched the Quit India Movement against the British.

The Trinamool holds the Martyrs’ Day rally annually on July 21 in memory of 13 youths who were killed in police firing on this day in 1993.

BJP Will Disappear from Bengal, Says Kabir Suman

Leading Bengali singer-composer Kabir Suman on Friday termed the BJP as “ignorant” and claimed that the party would eventually disappear from Bengal politics as they have no knowledge about the state and its people.

“There is a political party in Bengal named BJP. They are ignorant. They do not know a thing about Bengal. They would eventually have to disappear from here,” Suman, a former MP, said speaking at the ruling Trinamool Congress’s Martyrs’ Day rally.

“They think that they understand the Hindus here but they do not,” he said addressing the massive gathering.

Claiming that the Bharatiya Janata Party was not even worthy of people’s anger and disgust, Suman warned that they would be stopped by the common people if they try to create any ruckus.

“Do not get angry with them. They are not even worthy of it. If they try to create any trouble, just stop them. They will go away,” Suman added.
