New Delhi, Dec 4: The Supreme Court of India on Monday asked the Gujarat government to respond to the report of a court-appointed monitoring committee on alleged fake encounters that occurred in the state between 2002 and 2006 when Narendra Modi was chief minister.

The apex court bench of The Supreme Court bench of Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi and Justices S. K. Kaul and K. M. Joseph has given the government one week to file its response.

The committee, headed by retired judge of Supreme Court, Justice H. S. Bedi, had submitted its report in a sealed cover earlier this year, says LiveLaw.in.

The court-monitored Special Task Force had probed about 24 encounter cases.
