Hemant Soren Takes Oath As 11th Chief Minister of Jharkhand In Presence of Rahul Gandhi, Others

NEW DELHI, DECEMBER 29—Executive president of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha Hemant Soren took oath as 11th Chief Minister of Jharkhand at the Moradabadi Ground in Ranchi on Sunday. This is his the second he became chief minister of the state, the first time in July 2013.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, CPI(M) leader Sitaram Yechury, CPI general secretary D. Raja, RJD leader Tejaswi Yadav, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam president M.K. Stalin, DMK MP Kanimozhi, and Aam Aadmi Party MP Sanjay Singh were among those present in the oath taking ceremony.

Congress is the alliance partner along with JMM in the alliance government in the state.

Governor Draupadi Murmu administered the oath to Soren in presence of thousands of Congress, RJD, JMM, JVM-P and CPI-MLworkers.

Congress Legislature Party leader Alamgir Alam, Jharkhand Congress president Rameshwar Oran, who had won from the Lohardaga Assembly seat, and lone RJD MLA Satyananda Bhokta were also administered oath as ministers.

The 44-year-old Hemant Soren was the deputy Chief Minister in the BJP government led by Arjun Munda in 2010. However, he withdrew support to the BJP government in January 2013 and himself became the chief minister in 2013 for the first time, after six months of President’s Rule.

The Congress, the JMM and the RJD alliance won a total of 47 seats in a House of 81 in Jharkhand assembly. Hemant Soren also has the support of the JVM-P and CPI-ML who have three and one legislator, respectively.
