Delhi Police Fails to Arrest Hate-Mongers, Files chargesheet Against Shahrukh, Two Others

NEW DELHI, MAY 3—While Delhi police have failed to arrest any of the BJP leaders like Kapil Mishra and Union Minister Anurag Thakur who delivered hate speeches during Delhi assembly elections and afterwards and others who fired at anti-CAA protesters at Jamia Millia Islamia and at Shaheen Bagh, it boasts to have filed a chargesheet running into 350 pages against one Shahrukh Pathan and two others who were arrested for their involvement in cases of violence that broke out on February 23, after Kapil Mishra’s speeches and continued for the next two days, resulting into the death of over 50 people and injuries to over 200 others, apart from loss of property worth thousands of crores of rupees, mostly belonging to Muslims.

In its chargesheet, the police said that Shahrukh was seen, in a video, waving his pistol at a head constable, Deepak Dahiya, at Jaffrabad-Maujpur road on February 24. He then allegedly fired at the policeman, who tried to stop him, fleeing from the spot. The video went viral on social media as the police were trying to arrest the man.

Besides Shahrukh (23), the charge-sheet filed in Karkardooma district court also mentioned the names of Kaleem Ahmad and Ishtiyaq Malik whose location was also found on the spot by studying their mobile phone records.

The charge-sheet said that during investigation the police came to know that Kaleem Ahmad, resident of Kairana, Uttar Pradesh had given shelter to Shahrukh.

Thereafter, the police added Indian Penal Code Sections of 147 (punishment for rioting), 148 (rioting), 149 (unlawful assembly) and 216 (harbouring offender) in the FIR.

The police in the charge-sheet has also mentioned that it had recovered weapon of offence, 7.5 mm pistol from Shahrukh’s possession. The pistol was allegedly used by Shahrukh in the rioting.

Shahrukh was arrested by a team of Narcotics Cell on March 3 from Shamli for the case (FIR number 51/2020) registered under sections 186 (obstructing public servant in discharge of duty), 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of duty), 307 (attempt to murder) of IPC read with 25, 27 Arms Act in police station, Jafrabad.

Police said that after the incident, Shahrukh fled to Punjab with his family. He saw himself on news channels and repeatedly changed his location. He left Punjab after a few days and went to Bareilly in Uttar Pradesh.

Ten teams of Special cell of Delhi police were formed to arrest him and he was found at his friend’s house in Shamli district, UP.

The police said that when sleuths caught Shahrukh, they found that a man named Kaleem Ahmed, a resident of UP, helped him to escape. He has also been arrested and his name has been included in the chargesheet.

Shahrukh is a college dropout and showed interest in modelling and bodybuilding. He often made TikTok videos. His lived in Arvind Nagar, near Ghonda in North-East Delhi.
