NEW DELHI—All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) and administrators of several prominent Madrasas in Uttar Pradesh have strongly opposed the directive of the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) declaring madrasas “illegal” and the UP government’s order to district authorities to shift students from “illegal madrasas” to government schools.

In a statement, the board said that the sudden action of the UP government was unwarranted.

It said that madrasas had been playing a silent revolution by providing free, high-quality education to millions of children with food and accommodation for years. Many products of the madrasas played an important role in the country’s independence movement and continue to contribute to the development of the country post-independence.

The board announced, “to take all possible legal and democratic actions against the Muslim-hostile policies.”

The signatories to the letter include board president Maulana Khalid Saifullah Rahmani, vice-president Syed Sadatullah Husaini, Maulana Syed Mahmood Asad Madani, and T. Arif Ali.

Here is the full text of the letter issued by the board with signatories.
