LUCKNOW: In a recent parliamentary session, Rajiv Rai, a Samajwadi Party MP, expressed serious concerns about the treatment of Muslims and Dalits. Representing Ghosi in Mau district, Uttar Pradesh, Ravi alleged that there is a systematic targeting of Muslim and Dalit homes for demolition, often using bulldozers for these operations. He emphasized the urgency of addressing this issue, highlighting that despite concerted efforts by three MPs and five MLAs to bring attention to the matter, they encountered significant obstacles when attempting to engage with local law enforcement.

Ravi’s remarks draw attention to a broader issue of the mistreatment of marginalized communities in Uttar Pradesh. Earlier this month, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) accused BJP MPs of rendering the poor homeless by orchestrating the demolition of their homes through various departments. AAP leader and MLA Durgesh Pathak, during a press conference, alleged that houses were “illegally demolished” in Civil Lines, Delhi, displacing residents who had lived there since independence. Pathak also mentioned that the railways had issued a notice to demolish slums in Brar Square, Delhi Cantonment, on July 22. Despite this, he noted that the BJP MP from New Delhi, Bansuri Swaraj, had not visited the area to meet with the affected residents.
